Dear St. Anthony Bridges to Home friends:
In her letters from the Westerbork transit camp, Jewish mystic Etty Hillesum describes the solace she finds in God’s continual presence. Please allow me to share this wonderful passage with you.
You have made me so rich, oh God, please let me share out Your beauty with open hands. My life has become an uninterrupted dialogue with You, oh God. Sometimes when I stand in some corner of the camp, my feet planted on Your earth, my eyes raised toward Your heaven, tears sometimes run down my face, tears of deep emotion and gratitude. At night, too, when I lie in my bed and rest in You, oh God, tears of gratitude run down my face, and that is my prayer. Things come and go in a deeper rhythm, and people must be taught to listen; it is the most important thing we have to learn in this life. …I may never become the great artist I would really like to be, but I am already secure in You, God. Sometimes I try my hand at turning out small profundities and uncertain short stories, but I always end up with just one single word: God. And that says everything, and there is no need for anything more. And all my creative powers are translated into inner dialogues with You. The beat of my heart has grown deeper, more active, and yet more peaceful, and it is as if I were all the time storing up inner riches.
Etty was at complete peace even in the midst of the tragic situation in which she lived and the horrific future that assumedly awaited her. May we experience such peace and presence as we face the many challenges in our lives.
The most recent recipients of assistance from St. Anthony Bridges to Home are Barbara, whose move was completed on 6/28th, Janette's accomplished on July 2nd, Bryanna's occurred on July 9th, and Sophie's done on July 16th. Pictures below will give you a look into the moves and the teams that accomplished them.
We are blessed to have strong and committed teams that volunteer week after week to make sure the moves are done well and with great compassion and love. Thank you to Ron, Sharon, Ria, Terrie, Richard, Dennis, Gary, Jenny, Max, Al, and Barbara M. for answering the call to serve in this way. Our donors are key to supporting expenses for the items we provide to the clients we serve. Thank you to those who generously contributed to the most recent moves: Kathy N., Pam, Jenny, Bob, Barbara M., and Mary O. Without you and your faithful sharing of your resources, the moves simply could not happen.
Please see the email for details on the upcoming moves. It will be a busy summer but it is excellent working in the vineyard of the Lord.
Abundant blessings are wished for all of you,
Mary
